Objective
Sometimes companies like to describe themselves as “family,” when it comes to Phillips Refrigeration, they actually are family. Perhaps some things really do run in the family, such as the entrepreneurial spirit. Harry A. Phillips, founder of Phillips Refrigeration is the grandfather of Montana Banana’s founder Stewart McCullough.
The family resemblance doesn’t stop there. While industrial refrigeration and web development may not seem to have much in common, here are two similarities: First, is an earnest dedication to honor family connections. The other is that both companies are about being on the cutting edge of keeping it cool.
As one of Montana Banana’s first clients from back in the 1990s, we gave a lot of TLC in creating the original site and we’re always ready to jump in and make fixes and improvements. While the need for a website remains constant, technology changes. So in 2021, we did a full redesign of the site with the objective of keeping costs low and building a site that is user-friendly for the engineers and techs who build, maintain, and use the products.
Strategy
With an eye on the bottom line, we focused on maintaining the functionality of the previous site by porting all content over to a modern framework. While sales are not conducted through the site, we wanted to create a familiar experience to eCommerce. By building the catalog with the popular WordPress eCommerce plugin, WooCommerce, we not only created an intuitive user experience, we also positioned the client for adaptability should the business model ever change.
We also worked with the client to identify the challenges of the previous site so that we could build solutions into the new one.
Results
Montana Banana created a lean, modern, budget-conscious site that provides an efficient user experience. The site works well for the engineer designing systems from a desktop as well as the technician in the field using schematics to repair mechanical pump recirculating systems.
